About Literary Sweet

Literary Sweet is a blog devoted to books, writing, sweets, health, yoga and good drinks.

But this only tells you about the blog, and not the woman behind it.

Heather

Me on any given day sitting in my “office”

My name is Rae, no that isn’t my real name, but it is what I prefer to be called. It is also my author pen name (Rae Z. Ryans). The name is a combination of my gamer lifestyle, and the names of my brothers and husband. Yes, it is terribly confusing when we all get together, especially since my brother named my nephew after himself.

I wear many different hats, but I refuse to be labeled or defined. I’ve spent the majority of my life with my nose in a book, or pen to paper, so to speak. Intertwined in this is my home, work, and personal life which revolves around my three wonderful children.

Mr. J, Mr.P, and Miss A

I am currently working on two three projects, Realm of Shadow (YA Steampunk), Granny is a ( Paranormal MG series written for my children) and Prophecies (adult Urban Fantasy/PNR series).

My attempt at a serious expression

My children are homeschooled using a non-religious approach, and I strive to instill a love of literature as well as writing. My children are Mr. J (10), Mr. P (7), and Miss A (3). They enjoy a wide array of things, but each have their own unique personalities.

World of Warcraft

Death to the Living

I also enjoy playing MMORPG type games. World of Warcraft is a personal favorite within this genre of games, but I’ve also been known to enjoy some other ones too. Our gaming systems are limited to a Wii console and an original Nintendo. The older children each own their own Nintendo DS handheld systems.

My personal favorite genres for books are fantasy, urban fantasy, historical romance, steampunk, paranormal romance, and true stories. My eldest son loves to read too, and appears to enjoy many appropriate aged genres. He is an advanced reader, and reads at a high school level, but due to his age I limit what he reads. Some of our favorites are Harry Potter, Little House on the Prairie, White Fang, and Call of the Wild.

When it comes to daily life, cleaning, and food we have a very natural belief. I cook without shortcuts, and only use quality ingredients. Many of these come from neighboring farms, and our own garden. We also hold beliefs similar to Weston A. Price as well as Primal/Paleo, however, we are not overly strict. This means we don’t fear saturated fats found in animal products, or for the layman, butter/coconut oil is better than margarine. We also limit our processed sugar, and strive to consume products free of chemicals.

This household also has a lot of food allergies, sensitivities, and sensitive skin. Some recipes posted are free of gluten, soy, and I will only promote companies that strive for true nutrition (real food). I strongly believe that to be healthy, one must listen to what their body needs, and nourish it with the best food possible, but an occasional treat is nice too; even if it breaks all of my rules.

Please note that this is not a vegetarian or vegan friendly blog, but I do on occasion post such recipes. I believe that food based lifestyles are a personal choice, and I respect others personal beliefs. Literary Sweet only asks for the same in return.
