I have never been one to wear a lot of make-up. Now don’t get me wrong, I feel make-up has a huge place in our world. It can boost confidence, covers up small flaws we may have, and so much more.

The kicker for me is that many products available on the market are loaded with synthetics that just make my skin react. Think swollen eyes, lips, and blemishes popping up for no real reason and it will be clear why I usually go without.

That was until I found Mia Mariu. I can now wear eye shadow, mascara, and eye liner without my eyes swelling shut. Of course I’m no expert at applying any of the above, but now I also have a reason to learn. I find it funny that I really don’t know how to apply make-up at 31 years old.

Mia Mariu was founded by Jeannie Price, and the company is a member of the Direct Selling Association. This means they do not sell to large corporations, and that their product line is only available through the website and independent advisers. Direct sales have a two sided appeal as they help to empower women (and I’m sure men too!) and they help to spread the word of the company.

Jeannie wanted to bring beauty inside and out to women across the country. Her product line uses natural ingredients and the majority of products are mineral based. By using natural minerals, botanicals, vitamins, antioxidants, and peptides instead of synthetic materials the skin (and make-up) stays clear of bacteria which can cause blemishes on the skin. But it also helps to nourish your skin as you wear the make-up too.

I even went as far to test the theory that you can sleep in mineral based make-up. I know, shame on me, but in my defense it was so light that I kind of just forgot I was wearing it. I was amazed when I awoke the next morning, and aside from a bit of falling eye shadow, I looked the same as the day before.

But Mia Mariu offers more than just make-up! They also offer natural skin care, beautiful make-up brushes, nutritional supplements for healthy skin, and fine fragrances. I was even sent a small sample of their RestauraCel-C Microdermabrasion, and oh my words can not describe how wonderful my skin felt and looked.

Usually this is where I would tell you how the make-up holds up and all those lovely bits. However, I am going to show you with pictures. I thought this was a rather nifty idea, especially when it came to the mascara since it claims to be lengthening. Though I would like to point out that I was born with killer, long lashes (my lovelies inherited this too!) so it really was imperative that I photograph it.

The Mia Mariu Mascara went on smoothly and did not clump. As you can see the left side has make-up applied while the right is still clean. My lashes appear to be longer, darker, and even fuller. The color I chose to test is black, but Mia Mariu uses more fancy, sultry names for their colors like Azabache.

Eye liner is usually my worst enemy. OK, so not really, but I honestly fight to get it on my top lids. Most times when I do wear make-up I just don’t even bother lining the tops, but I found Mia Mariu glided easily. With my shaky hands it still wasn’t perfect, but I can’t remember the last time I actually had an eye pencil that didn’t snag on my skin. I chose Azabache which is a strong black.

For some more honesty…I really don’t know how to properly apply eye shadow. Again, with all my allergies I can’t typically wear it enough or often to learn.

This is a mineral shadow, in the colors Luna de Miel. Both are very neutral and earthy which fits my personality to a “T”. One is a reddish beige that reminds me of the desert rocks at sunset, while the second color is more like the color of dark, wet sand. Both lovely and totally complementary of each other, and my light, peaches and cream complexion.

The shadow itself is very lightweight, and it went on so nicely. I swear I kept forgetting I was even wearing it all day long. There is a nice shimmer, and the colors could work well for day or even night. I did find that multiple applications added more depth to my hazel green eyes.

Now to be honest, I was sold on Mia Mariu the moment my eyes didn’t swell up shut. But something else happened as I was testing out my products; I had fun! Really, I felt like a teenager again. As I said before, make-up empowers us and has this ability to make us feel beautiful inside and out. Mia Mariu just gave my natural beauty a small push, and it felt wonderful.
