About UnReal Candy
For anyone who is unfamiliar with UnReal, I want to tell you a bit about the company as well as their mission. It is one I approve of as a lover of sweets, but also as a parent who constantly is seeking treats that my children can enjoy without the chemical additives.
Those very additives have been linked to health problems across the board that affect both adults as well as children. Even if candy is a treat, it doesn’t mean we as people have to settle for anything less than real quality.
UnReal was created with a dream to bring healthier alternatives of sweets to everyday adults and children. This means top quality ingredients, and absolutely none of the junk fillers that big name companies use to create bigger profits at our expense.
Their claim is less sugar (about 40% less), better taste, and nutrients our body need like fiber and protein.
UnReal also uses only dairy, from cows not treated with growth hormones that are pasture raised.
Ingredients are sourced from sustainable farming practices, and 100% GMO free.
My love/hate relationship with candy
Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for chocolate. In fact I have quite a few located right around my middle! All jokes aside, it can be difficult to find candy without artificial colors, High Fructose Corn Syrup, hydrogenated Oils and Genetically Modified Ingredients.
If and when you do, you’ve most likely found it in a health food store with an almost unaffordable price tag to boot. On top of it all most of those products don’t even come close in taste or texture to what we love most.
Worst of all are the artificial dyes, and for me these are a big no-no. For new readers, I will disclose that I have severe allergies to food dyes as well as gmo soy, wheat, and an intolerance to conventional dairy. This makes finding candy and other goods almost impossible.
For the safety of my guests, I did not include individuals with allergies or intolerances since UnReal products are manufactured in a facility that also processes wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts. I, however, had absolutely no reaction to any of the products with my allergies and intolerances.
We put UnReal to a taste test with some of the biggest critics I know: Parents and their children.
We scored each product on taste and texture first, and as parents we also took into consideration the availability, and ingredient list of each product. To see how UnReal matches up against its leading competitor, please see this page here.
Taste was surprisingly better for each product tasted. The use of real milk chocolate (I mean it when I say real, not semisweet disguised as milk chocolate) really makes the line stand out. It felt more like an indulgence for the adults as opposed to a “cheat.”
The products that featured nuts where crunchy beyond belief. A lot of candies that contain peanuts end up being soft, stale, and lacking the flavor. With Unreal it was like popping a handful of dry roasted peanuts, smothered in chocolate and/or caramel into your mouth.
The children could not seem to get enough of the candy coated chocolates. They didn’t seem to mind the vibrant jewel tones at all. Best of all was the behavior of all the children. Now maybe it was because there was candy involved, but just maybe it was because there wasn’t any junk whatsoever served. Along with their candy samplings, guests were also served fresh fruit and vegetables, uncured lunch meats, and homemade cookies.
Sadly many of our guests were camera-shy (myself included!). It would have been wonderful to share the different reactions when they first took a bite. Many must have thought it wasn’t going to taste very good, but smiles quickly followed.
Over all we had a wonderful time. We talked about the health concerns affecting today’s youth and adults, and if heavily processed foods have played a part in it. In addition we also talked about ways that UnReal could allow us to have healthier options for our children and holidays. With one of the biggest candy holidays right around the corner it quickly became a hot topic.
I shared my personal story, as well as the health benefits of eating less processed junk foods. But most of all I shared my belief in being able to have a product or two that I can count on to have my best interests at heart.
That means a company that won’t lie to me, and that shares my personal food values just like UnReal does.

The winner of the taste test?
Would you believe it was an all around tie among the adults? We each felt that the texture and quality of each product went up and beyond what we expected. I mean really, junk food that doesn’t have junk has to taste bad, right? Nope.
The kids chose UnReal 41 as their winner!
Each party goer received a gift bag filled with UnReal Products along with fact sheets to share with their friends. UnReal provided me with the products as well as a stipend to cover the costs of the party. All opinions and photographs remain my own as well as those opinions of my guests.
UnReal candies are currently available from major mass retailers such as BJs, Kroger (and affiliates), CVS, and many more stores. Soon it will be available at Target too! To find stores near you please check out this page, or call your local retailers.
